More on Signs that Move Heart & Mind
Received a number of comments and emails from my previous post on signs that make us think and feel including this great example from “The Crowski” in West Lafayette Indiana:

Daniel Pink, author of a Whole New Mind has a blog with several post on Emotionally Intelligent Signs.
Another blog titled Sway, raises the question should we be using emotionally intelligent signs? They express concern over the effectiveness of a stop sign. The point is that “The stop sign example fails in part because the message doesn’t offer me an incentive that has the emotional impact to reorder my priorities”.
Perhaps it would for people that have a deep attachment for that song? Of course just the reference to love and more specifically what many would recognize as a love song can have a strong emotional appeal for some.
As with every problem in cognitive design we are creating solutions for a target group with a specific psychographic profile or set of intellectual, affective, motivational and volitional needs.
A cognitively well-designed sign will catch my attention and put me in a frame of mind that is powerful enough to paternalistically change my thinking and/or behavior. It must do this without creating risk or being too intrusive to what I am otherwise doing.
